Jersey Cricket recognised in 3 awards for CI SPOTY 2021
The shortlist has been announced for this year’s Betway Channel Islands Sports Awards with Jersey Cricket included in the nominations for three awards.
Men’s national captain, Chuggy Perchard, is up for the main award of CI Sports Personality of the Year following another successful year for the red men. He led by example as the team moved one step closer to qualifying for the T20 World Cup.
Chuggy skippered the side as Jersey won all six games out of six at the European Qualifiers in Spain in October.
The all-rounder finished the tournament as the leading wicket taker and starred during a man of the match performance against Denmark where his impressive death bowling earned his side an unlikely victory.
Following the team’s success, our Men’s national coach, Neil MacRae, has again been nominated for the CI Coach of the Year award having previously won it in 2016 and 2019. An undefeated campaign saw Jersey qualify for their third ICC T20 Global qualifiers under his tutelage.
Unsurprisingly, the men’s national team have also been nominated for the CI Team of the Year award. With 4 batsmen finishing in the top 10 run scorers and 3 bowlers finishing in the top 10 wicket takers, it was truly an all round team effort in securing the ICC T20 Europe Finals crown for the third successive time. Jersey’s, Harrison Carlyon, was also named Player of the Tournament for his 118 runs and 7 wickets.
