Jersey Crowned European T20 Champions for Third Time

ICC EUROPEAN T20 WORLD CUP FINALS - SPAIN

JERSEY’s men’s national team were once again crowed the T20 champions of Europe following an unbeaten campaign at the ICC tournament in Desert Springs, Spain. The men in red finished with 6 wins out of 6 games and in doing so secured their place at the ICC T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers.

This is the third time in a row that Jersey have made this stage of the T20 World Cup qualifying pathway having finished outside the playoff places in both 2015 in Ireland/Scotland and 2019 in the UAE. With final details of the global qualifiers still to be released by ICC, Jersey will be drawn into a group of 8 teams alongside the likes of Ireland, Netherlands, Oman and Zimbabwe.

Having performed well at the previous global qualifiers in 2019 in which Jersey claimed victories over UAE, Oman and Nigeria in the process, the squad will be hoping to go one step further and secure a place at the T20 World Cup 2022 due to be in Australia later next year.

Jersey captain, Chuggy Perchard: “we’re not too sure where the next stage is going to be yet, but it will be against some of the best teams in the world. The big test is to come next year with the global qualifier. Our team has gained another level of experience and it would be amazing to make that extra step this time around”.

“It’s what everyone in the squad is playing for, it’s what we dream of. To qualify for a full World Cup and rub shoulders with the best players in the world…that’s the goal.”

Jersey all-rounder, Harrison Carlyon, was named tournament Most Valuable Player having scored 118 runs and taking 7 wickets across the 6 games played.
