New Performance & Development Officer for Female Cricket Appointed

Jersey Cricket is delighted to announce the appointment of Maddy White as the new Performance & Development Officer for Girls and Women’s cricket. White takes up the role having previously worked with Lancashire CCC, Hong Kong and Sweden cricket before setting up her own coaching company MJ Sports.

With 14 years playing experience across county level teams, she brings with her a vast experience of girls and women’s cricket throughout all stages of the player pathway. The winner of the 2016 ECB ‘Young Coach of the Year’ award, White will be focused on continuing the development of the Lionesses junior cricket pathway and putting in place new initiatives to grow participation and access to the game in Jersey.

2021 was a successful year for female cricket in Jersey with the inception the first ever female only hardball competition as 4 teams battled it out for the Brooks Macdonald Women’s Premier League title. As well as this the Lionesses junior programme saw two teams at U13 and U15 age groups take part in the My Club My Journey initiative playing regular competitive fixtures against junior teams from the men’s weekend league clubs.

On her appointment, White said “I am excited to be accepting this role, with a view to progressing girls and women’s cricket in Jersey. Having gained experience from coaching in various environments around the world (Sweden, New Zealand and Hong Kong), I’m hoping that I can use this to further the opportunities for our young players in Jersey.

My immediate aim will be to progress and grow participation numbers across our junior pathway and working to provide opportunities for older players wanting to get into cricket”.

Performance & Development Manager, Lee Meloy, added “we’re excited to welcome Maddy to Jersey and see what a coach with her experiences in the women’s game can do to further opportunities for girls of all ages to enjoy the sport.

We have developed a clear girls and women’s strategy to grow the game locally, and with the support of the Jersey Community Foundation with funds from the Channel Islands Lottery, we will be able to accelerate our plans”.
