Paul Hutchison Appointed Director of Cricket
Jersey Cricket today announces the appointment of Paul Hutchison as Director of Cricket. Paul replaces Neil Macrae who left in April 2024 to become Head Coach of Netherlands Women.
During Paul’s initial tenure in the role on an interim basis, Paul led the Men’s side to success in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier B in Germany, retention of the Inter Insular trophy in both T20 and 50 over format, and impressive performances in the ICC CWC Challenge League Group A, topping the table in Kenya in September. His fresh and inclusive approach to on-island training utilising a multi- disciplined coaching team across both Men and Women, and his continued focus on developing Jersey’s talented young cricketers has also landed favourably around the sport.
Commenting on his appointment Paul said “I'm grateful for the opportunity to take on the role of Director of Cricket for Jersey Cricket after an interim period where we reached our initial goals. I'm excited for the challenges ahead and have full confidence in the talent of our male and female cricketers, who have the potential to compete at the highest levels on the world stage.”
“I’m inspired by Jersey’s cricketing history, recent progress, and the passion of our players and supporters, and I'm committed to building teams that can achieve the success they’ve worked hard for and truly deserve.”
Chairman of Jersey Cricket, John Harris “Paul has made great strides in a short time particularly with the Mens team where their commitments this season demanded his attention. Looking ahead, the Board of Jersey Cricket are excited to see how Paul’s leadership and coaching will also benefit our women and young cricketers in the pathway. It remains a key strategic priority to continue growing the women’s game on the island and 2025 brings the start of an ICC World Cup qualification cycle so he has an ideal platform to deliver these ambitions.”
As a player, Paul had a successful career as an opening bowler in winning teams with Yorkshire CCC, Middlesex CCC and Sussex CCC. Also achieving representative honours as an England A player, touring Kenya, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Moving into coaching, Paul has coached ICC Associate Members, Denmark and Sweden, and had specialist bowling coaching roles with West Indies Cricket, Essex CCC and Leeds/Bradford MCCU.
