Inter Insular Action Returns with kiya.ai T20 Cup
It’s Green vs Red Time Again !!
After a two-year gap College Field and KGV will welcome back this summer the Men’s Teams of Guernsey and Jersey for a T20I Tri-Series for the kiya.ai T20 Inter Insular Cup. These matches were last played in 2019 when, after a nail biter at College Field on the Friday night that went to a Super Over, Jersey ran out winners taking both games at KGV the following day.
The matches this year will follow the same format and will be;
Friday 20th May College Field 4.00PM
Saturday 21st May KGV 10.45AM
Saturday 21st May KGV 2.45PM
All three matches are recognised officially by ICC and afforded status as T20 Internationals. Currently Jersey are ranked 23rd in the world and Guernsey 38th (Source: https://www.icccricket.com/rankings/mens/team-rankings/t20i).
“We are obviously delighted to be hosting Inter Insular action again and renewing both old rivalries and friendships with our cricketing colleagues from across the water”, said Mark Latter, Guernsey Cricket CEO. “It has been a long time without these games, and we cannot wait to enjoy the thrills of sporting battle again. These games come at a great time to set us up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Sub Regional Qualifier B later in July. It is especially appreciated that Wayne Galllichan and the team at kiya.ai are able to continue their support of this series, having been with us, then as InfrasoftTech, in 2019.”
Os Lopes, Director at Kiya.ai said, “As a pan Channel Island digital business, Kiya.ai is delighted and proud to once again sponsor the T20 cricket inter insular. It has been a long time since players and supporters have been able to enjoy sporting competition and it will be wonderful to renew relationships both on and off the pitch”.
Jersey Cricket are also looking forward to the re-start of inter insular competition, “We are looking forward to the fixtures against Guernsey in the Kiya.ai T-20i Series in May. This return to Inter Insular action will be eagerly anticipated by both sets of players and supporters. We expect fierce competition and a great atmosphere in Guernsey next month”, said Neil MacRae, Jersey Coach.
For the players as well it has been a long wait to get back on the field and compete, Josh Butler Guernsey skipper said, “we are all excited about the prospect of playing inter island cricket again. The squad is looking forward to the challenge of playing against a strong outfit like Jersey and are eager to put in strong performances over the three matches”.
