DFDS to help put Jersey Cricket on the map

Jersey’s new ferry operator, DFDS, has lent its support to Jersey Cricket ahead of ambitious plans for the 2025 season. With DFDS’s assistance, the club will be sending a women’s squad to Cyprus this coming weekend [18- 21 April] to compete in the first international series of the season against Cyprus, Denmark, and Isle of Man.

DFDS will be supporting Jersey Cricket’s Domestic Leagues, national men and women, as well as Under 19 representative teams for a three-year period, becoming the organisation’s primary sponsor.

The Jersey Women’s team was invited to the Quadrangular Series taking place at the Happy Valley cricket grounds in Episkopi following their success in 2024, where they were crowned European T10 Challenger League champions.

The series is ideally timed as part of their preparation for the ICC World Cup European Qualifier at the end of May, Head Coach Darren Thomas said: “it will be a good chance for the squad to play cricket in new and challenging conditions in Europe after our winter training sessions indoors. I’m particularly pleased to see the depth and development in our squad which has resulted in the selection of Hannah Rigby and Tallulah Spry. It’s testament to their commitment which has seen them progress through the Jersey cricket pathway programme.”

Jersey Route Director, Chris Parker, said: “We are pleased to have this opportunity to assist Jersey Cricket as one of our first commitments to give back to the island and its community. DFDS is committed to gender diversity and increase the number of women at sea, so it is fantastic to be aligned with a sport where both men and women have a platform to showcase their talent on a national scale.”

John Harris, Chairman of Jersey Cricket, said: “Jersey Cricket is delighted that it has found a partner in DFDS, a company committed to making a lasting and meaningful contribution to island life. This commitment on their part to Island sport is a real boost, particularly to our national representative squads who, through their competitive performances over many years, provide such an inspiration to all our young cricketers in their development as well as providing on-field successes of which Jersey can be proud. Through their support for sport, they are helping to develop local talent, promote active lifestyles, and strengthen the sporting infrastructure in Jersey.”
